The Meteorological Service structures its products around three main groups:
1.- Products for companies
2.- Tailor-made products
3.- Web services
In the first group, encompassed by the MeteocatClients portal, there is a whole series of products accessible via a username and password on an Extranet of the Meteorological Service of Catalonia, aimed at companies and institutions.
The information on these pages which does not appear on the public website is as follows:
- County-wide lightning alerts
- Weather reports recorded on MP3
- Different fields from meteorological models
- Objective forecasts expressed as probabilities
- Software for viewing lightning in real time
- Tools for preparing lightning reports at a municipal level
- Improved temporal and spatial radar visualization
- Estimates of cumulative daily rainfall calculated with radars
- A tool for superimposing different layers of radar and lightning information
- Summaries of data from meteorological stations
- Access to historical data on oceanographic buoys
- Access to numerical data on radiosoundings in Barcelona
- Customized configuration of weather forecast SMS
The second group consists of various products resulting from specific commissions from companies or institutions. Of these, the following are worth mentioning:
- Meteorological information for the media (radios and newspapers)
- Forecast of interior turbulence for different ports in Catalonia
- Profile of sea conditions forecast for configurable navigation routes
- Warnings of rainfall intensity or accumulation using radar techniques
- Output from meteorological numerical models for specific points
- Output from oceanographic numerical models for specific points
The third group is aimed at automatic data supply by Web services using the SOAP standard. Their main use is for updating websites by automatically inserting data from the SMC, but it is also becoming a very practical system for transmitting data for other purposes. Web services for predicting 48-hour county weather forecasts and automatic weather station data in real time are currently active, but most of the SMC’s products will be accessible using this system in the future.
